Initial thoughts

I have had a strong desire to create my own blog for a while now. As college has not permitted me to do so, I am ecstatic to finally post something and think I should first state what my goals are and give a little history. This history will be brief as I am only twenty two years of age... I took a photography class my senior year of high school (which was all dark room experience), bought my first Pentex 35mm at the local photography shop and fell in love. I do not want to give the impression that it came easy to me at first. The dark room can be incredibly taxing physically and mentally as a newcomer which takes patience and dedication to break from. Once I got the hang of it I was using my camera everywhere I went. However, as I graduated, the class ended, and my life proceeded to declare an Anthropology major instead of art (for a multitude of reasons); I slowly weened off of photography's clutches due to the lack of any other option. I needed to focus all of my time in the books and less out in the world. Until..... my calling to travel came knocking on the door and I wandered my way to the Education Abroad Program where I grabbed a multitude of pamphlets. Thoughts of South Africa, Brazil, and India were floating through my head as I realized I desperately needed my love back in my arms. Considering my Pentex was not going to be very practical in my rucksack and Christmas AND my birthday were coming up, I figured I could obtain enough dough to get that handsome looking Canon Rebel Xsi sitting on the shelf at Camera World. Sure enough my parentals blessed me with their kindness and inherently rekindled the flame.

Since this historical moment in my life my buddy and I have been lotsa places. I eventually decided on going abroad to Budapest for a semester and taking weekly trips to other countries with my classmates. As of now, I will be working on sorting the infinite pictures taken while abroad and pick a few for each country. My ultimate goal for this blog is for it to be a place of growth. I noticed when going back in time through my Iphoto (I'm also just learning to use Adobe) I have progressively improved as a photographer. Of course everyone improves as they practice doing any activity but it was just beautiful to see it in action, in front of your own eyes of your own work. I also want to further document my adventures through the rest of my college experience which will be gone before I know it. Therefore be patient friends, I have lots of pictures, lots of love, and not a lot of time. Thank you for staying tuned and I am incredibly excited to share with the world!

Sincerely,
Marielle
